OUR VISION

At shiloh community housing our vision....

...is to develop the local community by extending ministry into the heart of the Anchorage community through housing development, shelter for the homeless, economic planning, social support and outreach to the disadvantaged, which will enable them to live healthy and productive lives as informed community residents.

... is to remove the barriers to safe, affordable housing such as age, income/sustainable employment; lack of education/under-educated; and training/skills which would prevent a person from ever obtaining sustainability and acquiring permanent housing.

At shiloh community housing our focus....

...are the underserved communities of Anchorage. We are destined to provide services to this community no matter where they are located. Fairview and Mountainview have been priority locations. Our facilities are located there. Our focus is community residents that are experiencing homelessness, those that need an advocate for services, equability in employment, housing, etc..

OUR hISTORY

Rev. Alonzo Patterson, Pastor Emeritus of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, sought to alleviate the conditions of poverty and illiteracy among at-risk young adults in the Anchorage community, and to help the community build assets such as quality affordable housing, good jobs, strong businesses, and educational programs. To address these needs, a not-for-profit organization was created in 2002, Shiloh Community Development, Inc. (SCDI). The housing program operated under SCDI. The year 2007 was monumental in several ways:

  1. A separate 501c3 certification for Shiloh Community Housing, Inc. (SCHI) was obtained;
  2. SCHI was certified by the Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) as a Community Housing Development Office (CHDO), a HUD recognized certification.

All housing program activities were transferred to the new organization and have been managed by SCHI since that time.
